Snow fever, not spring fever

Last September, my time came. I signed on to be part of the Butler University Media Arts Germany trip.

As soon as the airplane ticket hit my parents’ credit card, the race was on. If there’s anything I love, it’s time travel. A good old fashioned dose of physics brings me great joy. And that’s exactly what I got when “Lost” went all “Donnie Darko” on us this week. Alicia gives her take on the dining services at Butler...

Lately, my friends and I have had less-than-pleasant experiences with the food, specifically the food offered in Atherton.

The weather this Sunday was phenomenal. Sixty degree temperatures brought students out to play on the campus mall; there were countless bikers and runners on the (muddy) canal. I was even tempted outside to enjoy the weather and ended up walking around the neighborhood for an hour or so, soaking up the rays of sunshine and thawing out after the freeze of the past few weeks or so.

I get back to the house, feeling exhilarated (it’s amazing what a little sunshine can do for me), and get on weather.com to see how long my spring fever would get to last. I was expecting that we would have pretty temperate weather for the next few days, maybe not as warm as Sunday, but still decent.

Apparently it is supposed to be back down into the 30s on Tuesday and we are supposed to have snow. What a downer.

But maybe not. I am still waiting for a big snowstorm, where we get at least eight inches and school has to shut down for a day. It seems like we get at least one a year down here in Indianapolis, but it has yet to come.

The weather forecasters have been teasing us here in the city for the past couple months with warnings of big time snowstorms, and they have yet to be accurate in their predictions. I am hoping that maybe this forecast for heavy snow on Tuesday will actually pan out.

Last year, I missed out on the big storms that shut the university down for two days, as I was abroad in Ireland and didn’t see a snowflake the entire winter I was there. While I am probably the only person that is wishing for one last shot of extreme winter weather, I can’t help it. I love snow days.

I know they are a pain for all other people except for school children and college students, because people in the real world still have to go to work even when the roads are nasty (maybe it would be better if the city of Indianapolis would invest in a snow plow or two). However, I’m selfish. I want to play in deep snow just once before spring is officially here.

Let’s hope that the forecasters are right on the money for once this season. Just one snow, then I guess I can be ready for days like this Sunday for a while.
