At the semester’s first SGA meeting on Wednesday, it was announced that a new location will be opening to all student organizations on campus.
The old barbershop, located near C-Club, will be opening to student organizations as a place to keep files and hold meetings, SGA executive assistant Jennifer Brinn said.
“It will be a hub for everything that the student organizations need,” Brinn said.
She also said the location is still in need of a name, and those with ideas are encouraged to email sga@butler.edu. The name will be revealed at the opening of the location on Feb. 1 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Student organizations were well represented at the Winter Block Party, said SGA president Laura Michel. Over 50 organizations were represented to the more than 320 students in attendance at the SGA-hosted event in the Atherton Union Reilly Room on Jan. 16. Michel recommended continuance of the program for better mid-year exposure to student organizations.
She also announced that three candidates for Butler’s provost search will be visiting campus next week. The Provost Search Committee is going through the process of looking for a new provost, one of the highest academic positions on campus.
Candidates will be visiting campus on Tuesday, Jan. 29, Thursday, Jan. 31 and Friday, Feb. 1. They include Dr. Jamie Comstock, Dr. Kathryn Cruz-Uribe and Dr. Lynne Weisenbach.
The SGA Election Commission, which governs class officer elections, took nominations from the assembly for sophomore class president. That election will take place in the upcoming weeks.
R.E.A.C.H. (Respecting, Embracing & Achieving Community Harmony), which is in partnership with SGA and helps promote diversity within the Butler community, will be hosting its annual R.E.A.C.H Week on campus Jan. 28 through Feb. 2. Various events will take place throughout the week.
It was announced that R.E.A.C.H. and Dance Marathon are in need for executive board members. Applications for each are available in the PuLSE Office.
SGA plans to continue its regular events for the spring semester, such as Java Jams beginning Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. in Starbucks. Also returning will be Snowcoming, scheduled for Feb. 18-23. Highly anticipated and one of SGA’s biggest events is the annual Spring Sports Spectacular. The all-night event that takes place in the HRC is scheduled for March 29-30.
New events are scheduled on the Program Board’s events calendar as well, including comedian Zach Galifianakis who is scheduled to perform March 25 at 8 p.m. in the Reilly Room. This event will be free to Butler students.
